AWARDS & ACCOLADES

Multi-award winning independent singer-songwriter & performer Some Guy Named Robb performs a diverse blend of heartfelt Indie Folk-Rock Music with hints of blues, reggae, and even punk influence with lyrics that resonate wildly across the human experience.

Robb's chameleonic gift to perform anywhere is uncanny but he's best when he's able to engage with his audience and entertain them with his stories and original songs, mixed with a variety of eclectic cover songs.  People will go away smiling, thinking of Robb's stories, with his tunes stuck in their heads."

Growing up in a small-town in the foothills of the Ozarks, a young Robb McCormick fell in love with his father’s vinyl record collection. His father, a former DJ in the 1960's and 70's, he had an impressive assortment of titles.  From Roberta Flack to Duke Ellington, from Mavis Staples and the Ronettes, 60’s pop and soul, Motown, and of course, singer songwriters galore; Paul Simon, Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Neil Diamond, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and so many more.

In his teens he was awakened to a new world of music. Robb found acts like The Cure, Leonard Cohen, Sting & the Police, Depeche Mode, The Replacement, The Ramones, Bob Marley & the Wailers, U2 & Ani DiFranco. Every genre had something to offer. And today, the word Americana has become the umbrella genre for musicians like Robb who can’t be nailed down to one specific musical category.

Robb went from playing in his high school rock band, “sympathy”, to majoring in music in college only to go his own way into songwriting and performance. Arkansas is well known for country music, but Robb’s music never fit that description. After his first indie-folk-rock release, “The Irresponsibles Years” he branched out and began touring. He was approached by indie and even major record labels but surprisingly, he weighed their offers and politely turned them down.

Looking back, it was one of the best decisions in his life. As he watched friends say yes to record deals they would later sue to get released from, Robb continued to independently tour and self-release albums. It's been over 27 years of being called by his stage moniker, Some Guy Named Robb, he has managed to do what so few musicians have been able to do: write and record songs and perform them full time.

His songs speak to the human heart. Some silly, like his multi million streamed ‘Death by Panda’ or the folky ‘Just Shut Up and Play Guitar’ and some of his songs are downright chilling like ‘The Sinking of the USS America’ or his multi-award winning ‘Something to Say’.  He’s a hard songwriter to fit into a box. It’s best to enjoy whatever he serves up. I’ve never seen the same “Some Guy Named Robb” show twice.

Always different songs, different covers, different variations and iterations.

Touring full-time up until the pandemic, Robb switched to online performances and survived off the kindness and generosity of folks all across the world via tips, donations, and Patreon. It was the pandemic that broke Robb open to the world. Everyone was trapped indoors and from day one, Robb was performing for them, making new fans.

His music has been streamed millions of times. His songs have penetrated the heart of listeners of all ages, universally. His videos on social media have been shared countlessly, and his fanbase is global.

From private or corporate events, to house concerts to venues, from churches to prisons, Robb continues to seek out Truth for his music & lyrics and a kind audience and place with which to share them.

In his own words:

“The best shows are when I get to connect with the audience. When they are with me and I’m with them and we get to share a special moment together. Most musicians will tell you we perform music to make connections. That’s me. The best room is one who has come to have fun, to surrender to the evening and see where it may take us. From tears to laughter. From clapping hands to singing along with me.

I live for those musical moments.”

Robb has toured both nationally and internationally to critical acclaim, with his very own Americanabluesy, indie folk-rock original songs and a unique blend of eclectic, and often surprising, covers.

Robb has recently been on tour across the ocean in the United Kingdom, both England and France, as well as touring from coast to coast in America in 2024. Robb recorded part of his award winning album "The Folkster" in Memphis, TN at the world famous Sun Studios with Grammy winning producer Matt Ross-Spang.(Jason Isbell / Brandi Carlisle / Sean Rowe / Chris Isaak / Margo Price)

Robb McCormick, better known as his stage moniker, "Some Guy Named Robb" has written over 2000 songs, performed thousands of shows, released 9 original albums and played to hundreds of thousands of people, streaming to millions more, worldwide. He is currently a full time touring original artist, averaging between 130-180 shows a year.

His 2023 release “The Adventures of IndieBoy” recently celebrated half a million spins on Spotify.

Robb is the winner of the Beaux Arts Academy, Performer of the Year Award and the 40 under 40 in Arkansas. Three of his songs from his newest album have recently won awards; "Time is Not Your Friend" and "I Know Why the Caged Lion Roars" placed as a Top Finalist in The International World Songwriting Awards.

Robb's single, "Who I Am?" recently won the Henry Glover Songwriting Award in the Americana/Folk Music genre in Hot Springs Arkansas in 2024.

In 2023 and 2024, Robb's self-directed video, Something to Say" , a mental health awareness project disguised in the rewriting the Shakespearean story of Hamlet for the salvation of its feminine character Ophelia, "Something to Say" has won him multiple awards & laurels from several film festivals. (See photos below for details)

REVIEWS

"Robb is that "songwriter guy" you expect to see win a Grammy someday, out of nowhere."

- John Tickle

"Somewhere between heartbreak, longing, misery, desire, and the most ridiculous thoughts you’ve ever entertained is some guy named robb’s songwriting. It’s easy to want to pigeonhole an artist into a genre because it makes it easier for our minds to process. Garth Brooks, country. Bob Marley, reggae. Taylor Swift, pop.

But Robb’s songwriting doesn’t allow his audience the luxury of being lazy in defining him. Which is probably why people who listen to Robb tend to be critical thinkers, poets, passion-filled people, and other songwriters, who understand that real life experiences can take on every genre of music. They understand when they see Robb live, he will switch gears mid-set and take them from laughing about his song, “Death by Panda” to his tearfully contemplative tune, “I Choose You”, about a couple not being able to have kids.

I’ve been to several of Robb’s shows, not only are they entertaining, but they are also, unlike so many of his contemporaries, spontaneous. Each one boasting a unique, nightly tailored setlist with twists and turns that take you from self-realizations to historical revelations, to downright hilarity and bemused full body laughing.

Robb’s songwriting is the treasure you didn’t know you were looking for until you found it."

Mary Shence

"{Some Guy Named Robb} brings together Johnny Cash and The Cure in a way The National wishes he could."

Stephanie Hansen

"With each track (of The Folkster) you will be transported to an ever-present state of mind by a vocal-fry reminiscent of Neil Diamond, lilting lyrics luminescent of Ray Davies, the playfulness of the Monkees, and the existential woe of Roger Waters mixed with the dead-pan optimism of Tom Petty and Chrissy Hynde."

Daniel R Maher, Reviewer

"Some Guy Named Robb is the newest evolution of music for today. Old and new meet with finesse, style and class in Robb"

- Linda Shine

"My favorite part about hearing “The Folkster” was seeing Robb’s evolution both as a musician and a person.

From the gritty and raw emotionality of “The Irresponsible Years” to the more polished, reflective nature of this newest album,

I have loved seeing all the iterations of Robb. Plus I always imagine all his friends in the background and all the fun they must have had making this music together."

REVIEWS FROM THE ROAD
If you like your music in a box, wrapped up neatly, you won’t like “some guy named robb”.

Some artists keep writing the same song over and over again their whole life. Robb boldly dismisses the idea that songwriters are limited to one style or category, but rather fluidly weaves his own brand of music through the genres he loves to create some of the most unexpected, sometimes heartfelt, sometimes hilarious, songs.

If you only like to listen to the same music or type of music you’ve already heard before. You won’t like “some guy named robb”. Robb is a button in a funhouse. Press it once, you’ll get a silly original song like “Death by Panda” or “PBS Junkie”. Press it again and you’ll get his heart ripping duet on the loss of a child, “I Choose You” or multi-award-winning reinterpretation of Ophelia’s character from Hamlet in his song, “Something to Say”. Press it once more and you’ll be with him tackling the deepest questions humans have with “SleepyWorld” or “Life Imploding”. Once more? A song called, “DING!” about a mystery phone issue he had.

You never know… and that’s why you have to keep hitting the button.

“some guy named robb” is the randomizer button on the playlist you never knew you needed in your life. Always something different, something surprising, always what you were looking for if...

you’re brave enough to hit the button.
